Veronica A. Rice Rupp died peacefully Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Defiance Hospice Inpatient Center. She was born on August 8, 1915 at the Rice homestead, a farm southeast of Archbold, Ohio. She was the daughter of Oliver and Frieda Rice and one of five children (Emerson, Lucille, Marie and Rollin/Bud). Her religious education started in early childhood. She was baptized in 1915 and confirmed in 1928 at Reformed Church where her ancestors were charter members. She was a faithful member, singing in the choir, serving on various committees, and taught both Sunday School and Bible School. She attended the Tubbs one-room school house and the Funkhouser School, became valedictorian of her 1933 Napoleon High School class and graduated from Fairview Park Hospital School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio in 1938. She worked as a registered nurse at Detwiler Hospital and later was employed for 15 years at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. She married Dale Rupp in 1940. They purchased a farm south of Route 34, Stryker, where their three sons, Larry, Ron and Doug grew up. In 1956 they moved to Archbold. In 1989 Veronica and Dale purchased a winter home in Leesburg, Florida and enjoyed many years of sunshine rather than snow. Her joys included being with her children and grandchildren, traveling, collecting antiques, and china painting. Veronica was a giving lady. She shared her faith openly, and her spiritual nature and giving heart touched many lives. Veronica is leaving a legacy of Christian values, encouragement and love to her family. She is survived by 2 sons, Larry (Linda) and Doug (Nancy), a daughter in law, Elaine, a sister, Marie Smith of Westlake, Ohio, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Dale Rupp (husband) and Ron Rupp (son). Services will be held on Monday at 11 AM at St. John's Christian Church with Pastors Erich Christman and Adam Just officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery. Friends may call in the church chapel from 9-11 AM on Monday. The family suggests that memorials be given to St. John's Christian Church Legacy Fund, Kaijado Children's Home (Kenya, Africa) or Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.
