Obituary

Paul R. (Paul Sammy) Short, 87 years old, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, April 4, 2013, at the Fulton County Health Center following a brief illness. He was born October 31, 1925, near Archbold, Ohio to Sam S. and Mary Short. Paul was a lifelong resident of the Archbold community where he was a diversified farmer, a devoted member of the Gideons, and served as a German Township trustee for 24 years. He most of all loved his Lord and Savior and was active in the St. John's Christian Church of Archbold. His family brought him much joy, especially spending time with them at his pond and attending the grandchildren's activities. For a number of years, winters were spent in Florida pitching horseshoes, golfing, and shuffle boarding. Paul took a special pleasure in building and repairing items with his collection of old nails. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine May (Lauber), three children, Stuart (Rhonda) Short of Edgerton, Nancy (Randy) Ruffer, and Scott (JoAnn) Short both of Archbold; 10 grandchildren, CJ (Kylee), Nick, and Brooke Short, all of Houston, TX, Tom (Kelly) Short, Corey (Honour) Ruffer, Kylie (Cory) Rufenacht, Joel (Heather) Ruffer, Rebekah (Jacob) Graber, W. Olley, and Meridith Short, all of Archbold; 11 great grandchildren, Weston, Samuel, Norah, Willa, and Ginger Ruffer, Titus, Jarett, and Liza Rufenacht, Grady and Demi Short, and Logan Ruffer, and one sister Pauline (the late Kenneth) Short of Archbold. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Olen and Earl, sisters; Ruth (Denny) Roth and Louise (Val) Beck, all of Archbold. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 7, at 4 p.m. at St. John's Christian Church, Archbold, with Pastor Erich Christman and Pastor Adam Just officiating. Interment will precede at the Archbold Cemetery. Family and friends may call in the Chapel at St. John's Christian Church from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday. The family suggests that memorials be given to St. John's Christian Church or Gideons International.
