Nathan James
Baer
Oct 3, 1953 — May 22, 2018
Nathan James Baer, lifelong resident of Pettisville and husband to Judy (Towers) Baer passed away on Tuesday, May 22. He is survived by Judy, and will be missed by his daughters Emily and Kendahl (Brian Plank). He is also survived by his brother John (Cathi) Baer and sister Judith (Lowell) Kulp. Nathan was loved and respected by his nieces and nephews, in-laws, family and friends. He was a friend and helper to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joe (Joan) Baer.
Nathan was born to Clarence and Laura Baer on October 3, 1953. From ages 10-16, he moved with his parents to Puerto Rico to do service, where he attended Betania School in Aibonito. He returned to Pettisville Schools and graduated with the class of '72.
In life, Nate was the proudest of his girls. He taught them how to be selfless, how to work hard, and what it means to be a good person. They thought the world of him.
Nathan was an engineer and served as Engineering Manager for Sauder Manufacturing in Archbold, Stryker and New Haven, IN locations. Starting at the bottom and working his way up, he dedicated over 44 years to his work, and he will be missed by his colleagues, employees and friends.
Because of his time in Puerto Rico, Nathan was known as 'Tio' to his nieces, nephews and many others. He never met a problem he couldn't solve, always loved a good challenge, and would face that challenge with a sense of humor. He loved to fish, and spent lots of time on the water at Hamilton Lake, IN. He loved working in the garden and being outside. He loved traveling and was able to take trips around the world. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed countless hours out in the shop - fixing, building and creating. He was an expert on just about everything - and passed on so much knowledge to everyone that wanted (or didn't want) to learn from him. He has impacted many lives and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 24 at Pettisville Missionary Church from 2-8pm. A memorial service and time of sharing will be held at 3pm on Friday, May 25th at Pettisville Missionary Church.
Memorial gifts may be made out and mailed to Emily Baer 5903 Carnation Drive, Toledo OH 43615. A portion of yours gifts will be sent to the Betania School, in Aibonito, PR.
