Jerry O.
Clevenger
Jun 6, 1944 — Jul 25, 2018
Jerry O. Clevenger, 74, died suddenly after an accident, July 25, 2018. He was born June 6, 1944 in Dixon IL to Otis J. Clevenger and Lillian M. (Schmall) Clevenger. After he served in the U.S. Army he married in 1974 and Patricia preceded him in death in 2003.
Baptized December 12, 1985 in Stryker, Jerry was currently a member of St. Martins Lutheran Church, and a member of Archbold Legion Post 311. He had worked 18 years at Archbold Industries, 15 for Allied Security of Archbold and later retired after 26 years with the Archbold Post Office.
Jerry loved his community and his church and was a familiar face for decades. As a proud Veteran, he passed out the poppies at the Memorial Day Service; he was known as the Ice Cream Man at the annual Burger Bash in the park, and he was diligent in clean-up when his church hosted the community meals.
At St. Martin's Jerry was faithful in his church attendance both on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and he participated with the adult group gatherings.
Ironically, his accidental death came while working at recycling, a project that allowed him extra cash to travel with friends to Gospel Sings and on motorcoach excursions. He was particularly looking forward to the trip to the war memorials in Washington D.C. yet this month.
Those left to mourn his death are his St. Martin's family, especially his Shepherd John Poulson and those who were part of Welcome Place Wednesday activities and his special four-legged friend, Baxter.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 4 with Pastor Paul Reichert officiating. The graveside service with military honors will begin at 11 in the Archbold Cemetery with the Celebration of Life Service at 12 at St. Martins, 203 S. Defiance Street, Archbold. A luncheon will follow.
Memorials in Jerry's honor can be made to St. Martins Lutheran Church or the Fresenius Kidney Care Regional Dialysis Center of Williams County.
