Janis Ann Oyer went home to be with Jesus on November 29, 2014. She was born to George and Bertha (Fuchs) Stotz on June 29, 1933, near Edgerton, Ohio. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked at Ringer's Drug Store and The Fifty Corporation for a short time. On April 25, 1953, Jan married Sam Oyer of Archbold, Ohio. They raised their children on the family farm north of Archbold, where they lived until 2001, when they moved to the Fairlawn Retirement Community. Jan was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Church. Over the years she taught children's classes at the church and was very active in Ladies Aide. She enjoyed quilting with friends, cross-stitching, sewing, and playing cards and table games, and, in her later years, crossword puzzles. She regularly shared her gift of hospitality by inviting friends and family over for a delicious home-cooked meal. She loved and regularly prayed for our country. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She especially enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, three brothers, and two sons, Gary and Gregory. She is survived by her husband, Sam, three children - Randy (Judy) Oyer, Brenda Oyer, and David (Maria) Oyer - and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Oyer, all of Archbold. She is also survived by one sister, Marilyn Cape, of Edgerton; two brothers-in-law, Frank Cape and Bob Bowman; and two sisters-in-law, Vi Stotz and Sharon Stotz. Jan trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. Because of her faith, she faithfully prayed for others, and she was able to give support, encouragement, and friendship to others when they went through difficult times. Her faith gave her strength, hope, comfort, peace, and even joy during her final days, and she eagerly looked forward to being with Jesus. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Archbold Evangelical Church with Pastor Jesse Kahler, Pastor Charles Zimmerman and Jerry Lugbill officiating. Interment will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at Archbold Evangelical Church from 3-8 PM on Tuesday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to Hospice, Gideons International, or Donor's Favorite Charity.
