Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Leu Barnes Miller passed away Tuesday, March 25 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home. She was born August 20, 1925 in Fulton County, Ohio, to her parents, George Benjamin and Verena Orpha (Leu) Barnes. She attended Fayette High School, graduating in 1943. She received her nursing degree from Robinwood Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, and worked at Detwiler Memorial Hospital until she married Lewis Elvin Miller on September 5, 1948. Betty was a member of Crossroads Evangelical Church all of her adult life and was active as a Sunday School teacher, Ladies Aid member, and she enjoyed singing in the choir, and in a trio at her church. She was also a dedicated 4-H advisor for over 10 years. Betty enjoyed living on the farm, caring for the animals, vegetable garden, and beautiful flower gardens. She was an excellent seamstress and made lots of quilts for family members and to donate to charity causes. She was also well-known for her delicious cookies and treats, making dozens and dozens of them every Christmas. Once her children were grown, Betty returned to nursing at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home where she was a registered nurse on the night shift for over 8 years. None of this compared to her love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! She is dearly missed by children: Tim (Vicki) Miller of Pettisville, and Cheryl (David) Maxson of Wauseon, grandchildren: Benjamin (Harumi) Maxson, Haley (Seth) Budrew, Nathaniel (Whitney) Maxson, Andrew (Stephanie) Maxson, Bryce (Sara) Miller, and great-grandchildren: Sky, Maverick, Asher and Hava Budrew. Betty is also survived by a sister, Shirley (Clarence) Townsend of Indianapolis, Indiana, a sister-in-law, Irene Miller, a brother-in-law, Melvin Evers, both of Wauseon, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Barnes, her parents, and her husband of 50 years, Lewis. Memorial services will be held on Friday at 3 PM at the Fairlawn Chapel with Pastor Tyler Quillet officiating. Interment will precede at 2 PM in the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fairlawn Chapel from 4-8 PM on Thursday. The family suggests that memorials be given to The Alzheimer's Association, or Crossroads Evangelical Church.
