Doris Mae DeGroff Haveman, age 97 of Defiance Ohio passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Defiance Regional Hospital.

Doris's mother passed away when she was three years old and went to live with her grandparents Emma (Burkholder) and Harmon Kleck.

Doris was born at Lockport near Stryker, Ohio on May 22, 1926 the daughter of Lloyd and Inez (Burkholder) Schantz.  Doris married Virgil F. DeGroff in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1989.  In 1996 she married Norwood "Woody" Haveman and he preceded her in 2014.

Doris liked to bake and cook. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting.  She worked at a bakery and drove bus for the handicapped before her retirement.

Doris is survived by five children, Paula Sanford, Larry (Leanna) DeGroff, Fred (Val) DeGroff, Darlene (Jimmie) Page and Debbi (Larry) Kisor; five step-children, Gerald "Jerry" (Sally) Haveman, Rose (Dave) Sebright, Danny (Kay) Slusser, Boyd (Tami) Slusser and Penny (Bill) Timmer; and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; son-in-law, Mike Sanford; and two infant brothers, Donald and Arthur.

Services will be held on Friday October 6, at 12 noon at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Rev. David David officiating.  Visitation will be from 10-12 before the service.  Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.
