Obituary

Donna Belle (Dottie) Nofziger, born May 23, 1929 in Archbold, surrounded by family, passed away on November 12, 2014. She was 85. Donna was the eldest daughter of Alfred (Bunny) and Flossie (Nofziger) Short. On August 22, 1948, she married the love of her life Loyal Nofziger and they enjoyed a wonderful married life of 63 years together. They worked the family farms together for over 55 years raising cattle and hogs and later strictly grain farming. Farm life held a wealth of good times and good memories. Dottie was a graduate of Archbold High School, Class of '47. As a young adult she worked at Archbold Dry Goods. She was a faithful wife and mother to her family. Among her hobbies and interests, she loved to quilt and do cross-stitching. She was a volunteer at Sauder's Village, a member of the Fairlawn Auxiliary, and sang with the Defiance Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. Dottie was a member of St. John's Christian Church, where, in her earlier years, served faithfully as Children's Song Leader, member and president of the Women's Guild (sewing group) and supervised the church kitchen for many years. She loved to sing in the church choir and also was in a woman's quartet, along with Lucille Buehrer, Josephine Short and Donna Buehrer. In the later years, attending was difficult due to health conditions; but she faithfully listened to the radio services. She was the encouraging factor in establishing our family to sing in various churches and at local campgrounds for Sunday services for several years. Surviving are her children Joseph (Angela Rice) of Venice, Florida, Connie (Mark Holsopple), Curtis (JudyGrieser) both of Archbold and Deanna (David Black) of Middlebury, Indiana; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in February. She loved their visits and enjoyed watching them grow and develop. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice as a family, that her journey on earth has ended, she has entered into glory and has been given a new body that bears no more pain. On March 21, 2012, Loyal preceded her in death. Dottie was the sole survivor of her family; her siblings - Charlene Lantz of Archbold, Richard Short, and William Short of West Unity all preceded her in death. Visitation will be on Friday, November 14 from 2-8 p.m. at St. John's Christian Church in Archbold. Donna Belle's "Celebration of Life" will be held, Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. also at St. John's, with Pastors Erich Christman and Adam Just officiating. Internment at Lockport Cemetery will precede the service for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to St. John's Christian Church or Gideon's International.
