Obituary

Bill E. Stuckey, age 80 years, of Archbold, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, August 2, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, where he had been a patient three days. He was born February 26, 1932, on the family farm just west of Archbold, the son of Eli and Mary (Nafziger) Stuckey. On September 21, 1957, he married Valetta "Becky" Beck, and they were blessed with three children. A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he spent his lifetime farming and continued helping his son on the farm. He enjoyed volunteering with Mennonite Disaster Service, Mennonite Central Committee, Pastors for Peace, driving medical supplies to El Salvador and served in various other relief organizations. He was a member of Lockport Mennonite Church, rural Stryker, and served on the board at Stryker Famer's Exchange for many years. He was a farmer at heart and enjoyed many travels with family and various trips with friends, and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought much joy to his life. He is survived by his wife, Valetta "Becky"; two children, Kathy (Neil) Nofziger and Douglas (Julie) Stuckey, both of Archbold; six grandchildren, Chase (Molly) Stuckey, Chad Stuckey, Erica (Josh) Sprunger, Clay Stuckey, Karla (Jaron) Bernath, and Jenna Nofziger; five great-grandchildren, Cooper and Addison Stuckey, Ashton and Riley Stuckey, and Ellie Sprunger; one brother, Paul (Carol) Stuckey of West Unity; one sister, Helen Leu (Theron) Short of Archbold; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Stuckey of Stryker; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Amy Stuckey in 1988; and two brothers, James Stuckey and an infant Charles Stuckey. Memorial services will be held on Monday at 4 PM at Lockport Mennonite Church with Pastor Steven Heatwole officiating. Interment will precede at 3 PM in the Lockport Cemetery. Friends may call at Lockport Mennonite Church from 2-8 PM on Sunday. The family suggests that memorials be given to Mennonite Central Committee or CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
