Barbara May Emmons, age 77, of Archbold, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. She was born May 12, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI to Richard P. and Letha Marie (Root) Dirkse. After graduating from high school, she attended Parson's Business School. On June 18, 1955, she married Bruce Edward Emmons in Richland, MI. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1999. Barbara and her husband were foster parents for over 25 years. She enjoyed being with and taking care of children. She is survived by three sons, Lauren Emmons and his wife, Antoinette (Toni) of Lapeer, MI and their children, Rachel, Sarah, and Jared, Larry Emmons and his wife Catherine "Cathy" of Knox, IN, and their children Shane (Beth) Emmons and great granddaughter Violet, and Travis (Jessi) Emmons, and Ramon Emmons, and his children Makyla and Ramon "RJ", and a sister, Patricia White of Portage, MI. In addition to her husband, Bruce, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Paul Edward Emmons at birth, and her siblings, Sally Ann Loofboro, Jean Stucky, and Richard Dirkse. At Barbara's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM on Monday with a Memorial Service to follow at 3 PM at Fairlawn Haven Chapel in Archbold Ohio, with Chaplain Charles Gautsche officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Ridgeville Cemetery near Jasper, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairlawn Haven Endowment Fund.
